Another Kewell interview
Tuesday, 17th March, 2009
Early last week Harry did an interview that can now be both seen and read. Harry discusses a range of topics, though it is quite similar to the previous English filmed interview he did. The interview however contains snippets of the CimBom faithful and several Galatasaray fans proclaiming their love for Harry as well as some of Harry's goals for his club and country. In one part of the interview, Harry gets defensive of the club when the interviewer calls Galatasaray "a top 4 club" by replying that any Galatasaray fan would "shoot you down" for saying that before stating "There is only one club for them in Turkey and it is fantastic to be part of it." The written version will be added later on during the week.
8 photos from the match in Hamburg have been added to the UEFA gallery.
Kewell out for Trabzonspor match
Monday, 16th March, 2009
According to Galatasaray's official website, Harry did not travel with the rest of the squad for their away match against 3rd placed Trabzonspor. Harry joins Nonda, Emre Gungor, Linderoth, Mehmet Topal and Servet Cetin as the notable absentees. It is not known what prevented Harry from travelling and playing but he will be well missed especially after his spectacular performance as a centre back in the previous match. A win for the Lions will see them move into 3rd place, only three points behind league leaders Sivasspor. Highlights of Harry playing as a defender agaisnt Hamburg can be viewed below.

Last night Harry Kewell won the respect and admiration of all Galatasaray fans as he volunteered to play centre back following the dismissal of Emre Asik in the 53rd minute. Harry explained "We were under a bit of pressure at 1-1 after the send off and I just wanted to do my very best to ensure we didn't let what we had slip". Harry who started off his Leeds career as a left back says "I actually quite enjoyed it, I did a lot of talking and really just did what was best for the team", will be looking to be on the attacking end next week saying "I'm not hoping to make a habit of playing at the back and hopefully I'll be back the other end of the field trying to score or create goals" when Galatasaray host Hamburg on the 19th of March.
The 1-1 result puts Galatasaray in the prime position to advance to the quarter finals with Ayhan Akman's away goal giving the Turkish side the upper hand. Next up however will be 3rd placed Trabzonspor on Sunday (Monday morning AEDT). A win in that match would see Galatasaray moving up to at least 4th spot with every Super Lig game now a crucial one if Galatasaray want to be playing European football next season.
Harry gears up for Hamburg
Thursday, 12th March, 2009
Harry and his teammates arrived in Hamburg yesterday and had a training session in the afternoon. GOAL.com's match preview have Harry as the Galatasaray player to watch saying the team "will look to Harry Kewell to provide the inspiration" especially with Milan Baros out of the match due to a 1 match ban.
For Galatasaray, it will be their 218th competitive game in Europe and the players will be hoping to see another Galatasaray dominated crowd much like the reception they had in their match against Hertha Berlin. It will be interesting to see how Bulent Korkmaz will manage the defense following the €6m departure of Fernando Meira to Zenit St. Petersburg. Hasan Sas travelled who with the team to Hamburg could mean more goals of Harry if Hasan is able to play. The midfielder assisted Harry with his first two goals for the club before being out with injury.
Kewell ok, ready for Hamburg
Wednesday, 11th March, 2009
Despite reports of Harry picking up an injury in last Friday's match, he will be traveling with the team to Germany and will be prepared to face Hamburg on Thursday night (Friday morning AEDT). Speaking about the upcoming match, Harry said "Hamburg is a very big challenge but we are all used to that now. We haven't had a great season but we know what we have to do...Everyone wants to play in these games. You have got to be ready for it." Regarding Galatasaray's previous UEFA Cup match where they defeated Bordeaux 4-3, Harry thought "..all four of our goals were special, not just my one. How we worked as a team to get the ball into those positions was fantastic." Harry and the rest of the team are well aware of what progressing into the quarter-finals would mean saying, "We can get a step closer to an amazing dream for Galatasaray as a club. We all know where the final is being held so that would be fantastic. But we can't think about that now - we just have to think about this Thursday."
Harry doubtful for Hamburg clash
Monday, 9th March, 2009
Harry picked up an injury late in the previous match against Bursaspor which Galatasaray won 2-1. Earlier on however, Harry was the catalyst for the opening goal of the match as his cross directed to Milan Baros deflected off Bursaspor defender Volkan into his own net. The Turkish media praised Harry's efforts on the night saying "Kewell was the only one to truly display team spirit". Following the match, Galatasaray has only said that "Harry is receiving treatment for a minor injury" and they will be hoping that he is fit come Thursday when Galatasaray face Hamburg in Germany. Hamburg SV, currently on 5th place in the Bundesliga following their 1-4 thrashing by bottom placed Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to make the most of the first leg infront of their own fans. Gala's star striker Milan Baros will be unavailable due to a 1 match ban meaning Shabani Nonda is likely to feature in the starting line up.
Below is a video recap of Friday night's match which keeps Galatasaray in 5th place in the Turkish Super Lig, 3 points below leaders Sivasspor.
