Harry rested for Japan clash

Tuesday, 16th June, 2009
Harry did not travel with the Socceroos squad on Monday to Melbourne and will not feature in Wednesday's match along with defender Chris Coyne. Manager Pim Verbeek noted that "Both Harry and Chris played two tough games in a very short period of time. Besides Mark Schwarzer and Jason Culina, Harry and Chris were the only two other players to play virtually all of the Qatar and Bahrain matches." Harry will need his deserved rest with Galatasaray opening camp next Monday. All the players will be looking to impress new manager Frank Rijkaard to ensure they fit into his plans for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile this website has compiled a video of all of Harry's goals from the season past, so sit back and enjoy the video!

Kewell and Australia invite you to 'come play'

Monday, 15th June, 2009
Yesterday Australia launched its 2018/2022 World Cup bid. Instead of other bidding nations such as England who used David Beckham and Prince William, the United States who have Barack Obama and Arnold Schwarzenegger or Russia with Guus Hiddink, Australia's bid team turned to the Australian public as their secret weapon to win the right to host a World Cup. The promotional video was also released and features the one and only Harry Kewell for the opening sequence dribbling around ANZ Stadium "trying to be Ronaldo" as he put it. Harry is a firm believer of Australia's potential to host the World Cup saying "We did the Olympics, that was a great success, so there's no reason why we can't host the World Cup". You can view the video below and be sure to visit www.australia2018-2022.com.au to support the bid.

In Galatasaray news, it seems more likely that Mexican starlet Giovani Dos Santos will be reuniting with his former manager Frank Rijkaard. The Tottenham midfielder had an unproductive first season at White Hart Lane following his transfer from Barcelona. Unable to break into the first team, Giovani was loaned out to Ipswich Town where he found the net 4 times in 8 matches. He would likely cost £4.7 million but would be a good investment for the future.
Barca rivals Espanyol however are also considering his services so it will be interesting if Rijkaard can convince the youngster to come to Turkey.

Kewell reveals he's fitter than ever, new face of Solo

Sunday, 14th June, 2009
In a new interview, Harry and his personal physio Les Gelis reveal just how fit Harry has become. Reports from the UK say David Beckham's time at AC Milan improved his physique and that he now carries only 8.5 per cent of body fat. However Harry beats this and is now at 7 per cent body fat despite increasing his weight this year. Harry joked that "I know I've added more muscle because the majority of my pants don't fit me no more, they're too tight around my quads." His speed has increased since two years ago and his vertical leap has improved by 25 percent which might explain the growing number of goals coming off his head. To add to this, Gelis says Harry "hasn't maximised yet. I think he's got another 10-20 per cent in him in terms of those raw measures of power and speed"

Along with Australian fashion brand Politix, Harry is now the new ambassador of the soft drink Solo and you can expect to see its ads featuring the Socceroo on television in the near future. The interview revealed Harry spent 9 hours last week filming a new commercial for the soft drink brand. You can read the entire interview here.

Australia through to World Cup, Rijkaard new Gala boss

Sunday, 7th June, 2009
Australia have booked a spot in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa following a scoreless draw with Qatar in the early hours of the morning (AET). Harry was the star of the match, especially in the first half where he came close to scoring and setting up others for a goal. He played the majority of the match down the right side of the field though he occassionally played on the left giving defenders on both sides a headache. Harry admitted the overall performance of the team was "not great, but we stuck together as a team." Defence was the key and Harry saw it as a "good way of attacking and we have done that over this qualification. A lot of people weren't confident that we weren't going to make this World Cup and we have proved them wrong tonight.". It was a proud moment for Harry and the rest of the team as he said "it is a respect thing if you make back-to-back World Cups. Only the great teams make it every four years." Several photos from the match and post match celebrations have been added here whilst the 'Off the Pitch' gallery has also been updated here and here.

Back in Istanbul, former Barcelona manager and AC Milan star Frank Rijkaard has arrived to sign a two year contract to manage the team. His managerial achievements include two Primera Liga titles as well as an UEFA Champions League title won in 2006. Rijkaard who beat out fellow Kewell admirer Gerard Houlier and Bernd Schuster to the position is likely to bring his smooth flowing style of football to Galatasaray and potentially attract some high profile players. His appointment is also good news to Harry with Harry's agent revealing that "when Rijkaard took over the coach job at Barcelona in 2003 one of the first players he wanted in his team was Harry." It is likely Harry will be utilised much better by Rijkaard than former manager Bulent Korkmaz who often played Harry out of position or left him on the bench.

Substance over style says Harry, plus another 4-4-2 cover

Wednesday, 3rd June, 2009
Harry has hit out at critics who see the Socceroos as playing boring football saying "sometimes it's all about just getting the job done...So if we can out on the weekend and play solid defence and get that scrappy goal, we will take that now." Harry who looked in fine form during the training sessions jokingly credited his fitness all down to "the tan really." He said how he's "been fit for a while now and I am just enjoying my football. When you do run around a lot, you do get fit. I am enjoying training and I am constantly on the park at the moment".

Harry warned that Australia had to be cautious with Qatar citing that the match will be "very difficult". However, he noted the team would be "going there for the three points, nothing less". Harry also touched on the subject of his former Leeds United strike partner Mark Viduka saying, "he is a very valuable player for this squad when he is playing on song. I heard the last couple games for Newcastle he was doing really well and he's just unlucky they didn't stay up but Mark is always welcome back in this team." 6 photos from yesterday's training session have been added to the gallery.

Talking about Galatasaray's aspirations for next season, Harry has said everyone in the squad wants to win trophies and they will be hungry for success following this summer break. Reports from Spain are saying that Galatasaray are speaking to former Real Madrid and Tottenham manager Juande Ramos about managing the club for the next two years. The team sent representative to discuss the team's goals and a decision is said to be made over the next few days.

Harry is once again on the cover of the Australian FourFourTwo magazine this time gracing the cover of issue 45. the article talks with Harry about living away from his family, living with his physio and the upcoming World Cup.

Kewell & Culina in training ground bust-up

Tuesday, 2nd June, 2009
Harry had some choice words for fellow Aussie and Gold Coast United's marquee man Jason Culina following a tough tackle in training today. The Socceroos are in Dubai preparing for this Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Qatar in Doha. The Galatasaray star wasn't very happy with a tackle by Culina and let him know about it. The pair exchanged words before things calmed down. The players are acclimatising to the heat with a match weather of 44-45 degrees celcius expected for the match. The players fly out to Doha on Friday.

Photos from the training session have been added to the World Cup Qualifiers gallery.
